Colt Idol was born in Bigfork, Montana. He was raised there until he moved to Whitefish just before high school. Most of his early years were spend outdoors hiking, fishing, and camping. In high school his life shifted to sports, primarily basketball and track and field. Needless to day he excelled. Colt was all-state three years in a row for both basketball and track. He was a state champion high jumper and holds every scoring record for basketball in Whitefish.
In 2009 he committed to play basketball for the Montana State Bobcats. Unfortunately he tore his ACL prior to the season. What followed was two more injuries and two more surgeries. He finally decided enough was enough and turned his focus onto his art. He took a semester off from school and spent everyday at home painting this his dad, Dick Idol, painter and well notarized sculptor and personality in the outdoor and hunting world.
Colt’s progress and skills developed at a rapid pace. In August of 2011 Colt presented his work to the Stephen Isley Gallery in Whitefish and they decided to represent him. The first month went incredibly well nearly selling all of his paintings. At this point Colt decided to permanently withdraw from school and focus on pursuing his dream of being a professional artist.
